When golfer Sergio Garcia set the world record as the youngest player ever to make the cut on golf’s European Tour he was just 15 years old. Fourteen-year-old Jason Hak broke that record on Nov 20 by making the cut at the Hong Kong Open.

Hak, whose favourite golfer is Tiger Woods, says he is definitely a fan of Garcia and is really happy to have played well enough to break his record.

"I feel pretty happy. I played pretty well and tried my best. I think that's important," Hak told reporters after finishing his second round with two birdies.

However, it was a surprise to everybody, including himself that Hak is still in the running for the $2.5 million in prize money at the Hong Kong Open.

"I play a lot of junior golf,” Hak said. “I won a couple of them but this is the biggest tournament I've played. It's a good experiment for me."

It sure beats biology class. But as to whether or not this result means Hak will be turning his attention from high school to professional golf, he’s not so sure.

“I have no ideas of turning pro because it's only one tournament,” Hak said. “It doesn't really tell the whole story.”

Hak currently lives in Lake Mary, Florida. He shot 70 in each of the tournament’s opening two rounds to just make the cut of 140.

Garcia, who is now the No. 2 golfer in the world behind Tiger Woods, set the previous record at the 1995 Turespana Open Mediterrania in Valencia, Spain.
