Picking the Perfect Pet
One of the coolest things about virtual pets is that you can choose an animal that traditionally wouldn't be kept as a pet, like a panda bear or monkey! If exotic animals don't appeal to you, you can go with something a bit more mainstream like a hamster, bunny or dog. Most virtual pets take the same amount of care and attention so bigger animals aren't going to eat up any more of your free time than a little one is.
Taking Care of Your Pet
Unlike real animals, virtual pets don't need to be taken for walks or have their litter cleaned on a regular basis, but that doesn't mean you don't have to pay attention to them! Digital pets like Tamagotchis or Neopets need to be cared for, fed and loved. Instead of bestowing your animal with a giant hug or filling their bowl up with kibble, you care for your virtual pet by pressing various buttons on your pet's electronic case.

Virtual pets have come a long way since their debut in the mid 1990s. Back then pets had distinct personalities and you could feed them and give them treats, but that was about it. Today you can feed, groom, train and even socialize your pet! Many digital pets are able to connect wirelessly to other pets from their line so they can play together. So, if your friends have the same kind of pet as you, you can plan play dates!
