Dear Dish-It,
I'm 13 and in the 8th grade. I went on vacation and when I came back after three weeks, my voice was croaking and was squealy for about five days. I went to the doctor and he said it's because I'm changing. I know what that means, but after six days my voice was back to normal. Why is that? Two days ago it did that, but then it got deep again. But now I think that it's going to stay normal, maybe because I talked to myself and I got used to my voice so that it sounds normal. Can you please help me?
Ayman

Dear Ayman,
Sounds like you're going through puberty... but you already knew that. So here's what you may not know - puberty isn't a one day thing. It can last anywhere from a couple of months to a year! When guys go through puberty, their larynx (voice box) grows larger and their vocal chords get thicker. That's why your voice starts to crack, croak, break and get squeaky. It can be pretty embarrassing when you're talking to that cute girl in class and then all of a sudden you start squealing in the middle of the convo! But don't worry too much about it cuz it's just a part of growing up and most of your pals will be going through it with you. And when it's all over, you'll be left with a nice, husky voice!

So gotta burnin' question? Need some love directions? Thinkin' about stuff like teen suicide, depression, sex, low self-esteem, boyfriends, girlfriends, losing old friends, bullying or peer pressure but are too scared to ask the 'rents? Don't be scared to Dish-It. Just remember, if you hang out in chat with other Kidzworld members who know you by your nick, you might wanna use a secret nick when you write in. That way no one will ever know it's you. Remember though, Dish-It gets tons of letters a day, so she can't answer 'em all. But keep checkin' the column cuz chances are, she'll be answering something very similar to your question soon. Thanks! Got some words of wisdom you wanna share? We'll dish them up too.
