Take a Bite Out of Animal Crime

The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is dedicated to preventing cruelty towards animals. They're kind of like the animal police - if they find out that people are hurting their pets by physically abusing them or neglecting them by not feeding them properly, they'll take away the animals and care for them until they can find 'em new homes. In addition to protecting and providing shelter to strays and animals in danger, the SPCA deals with proper pet care and animal adoption.

Paws With a Cause

Every year, the SPCA takes in millions of cats and dogs that are abused, lost, or unwanted. Although many of these animals find new homes or are reunited with their owners, countless others have to be put to sleep because the SPCA can't take care of all of them. That's why they came up with the SPCA Pet S.O.S. program. When you register your pet at the SPCA, they give you a tag with a unique identification number that you attach to your pet's collar. If it ever wanders off, the S.O.S. alert will help you get your pet back!

How You Can Volunteer at the SPCA

Want to volunteer for the SPCA? There are lots of different things you can do, like walk dogs, clean up cages, and wash and groom the animals. Or, if you're looking for a new best friend (and you're ready and willing to take care of it) you can drag your parents to your local SPCA to adopt an animal instead of buying one at the pet store. You can adopt all sorts of pets, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, rodents and reptiles.
