2001 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards
The highlight of this show is, as always, the non-award winning scenes. Blockbuster isn't the one to watch for lengthy, heart-felt acceptance speeeches, but it is the one to watch for candid moments with your fave celebs. They have lots of green room footage and red carpet stuff throughout the ceremony. In fact they seem to spend more time behind the scenes than in the auditorium. That's a good thing actually - it makes up for the fact that when a performer wins one category, they get all the other awards they won at the same time.
This year, Charlie's Angels Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Lui took home Favorite Action Team. They were fun to watch on stage. Afterwards in the green room (it's a press room) reporter Jan Carl found out that Drew and her hilarious boyfriend, comedian Tom Green, are actually married. They joke about it all the time but Drew confirmed live on TV that they really are.
Sandra Bullock won for Favorite Actress, Comedy and her speech was funnier than Miss CongenialityHer co-star and Julia Roberts' personal hottie, Benjamen Bratt won for Favorite Supporting Actor, Comedy. He told the crowd that Julia was filming in Vegas and that his date, (his agent) was lovely but not as lovely as his usual companion. Don't they just make you all warm and fuzzy inside?
Other highlights included Mad TV stars Will Sasso and Alex Bornstein on the red carpet giving the stars crazy prizes like George Forman Grills for the longest acceptance speech and $10 to anyone who can show them a Blockbuster Video Card - JC Chasez of *NSYNC won some cash for that one (maybe now he can afford a hair cut.)
