World Record Slam Dunk
Michael is a six foot, five inch forward with the legendary Harlem Globetrotters. He's dunked the ball on a 12 foot hoop which puts him in the Guinness Book of World Records. That's a full two feet higher than a regulation basketball hoop! The Wild Thing even tried to beat that record by dunking on a 12 and a half foot hoop during the 2001 Final Four weekend in Minnesota. He came up a bit short, but he's still the highest flyer around. It would be cool if NBA players tried to see how high they could slam the ball during the All Star Game's slam dunk competition. That way the contest would actually be worth watching. All the guys in this year's contest did a bunch of weak dunks we've already seen a million times before. (Vince Carter - where are you, man? Michael played college basketball with the University of Memphis where he teamed up with Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway who now plays with the Phoenix Suns. After college, Michael began playing for the Globetrotters where he picked up the nickname Wild Thing for his wildly acrobatic aerial maneuvers. He's now a huge fan favorite wherever the Globetrotters take their travelling basketball road show.
