Causes and Cures for Common Warts

You don't just find them on the faces of dirty old witches and you don't get them from kissing frogs or toads. Warts are caused by a virus, just like cold sores and they can pop up on anyone.

What Are They?

Warts are small bumbs of hardened skin. They can show up anywhere on the body, but you'll usually find them on your hands, feet or face. Kids get them more often than adults do - but some kids never get any warts at all. Warts don't usually hurt but they can look pretty nasty.

How Do You Get 'Em?

You can get warts by catching a certain virus - just like catching a cold or the flu. This wart virus shows up in moist places on your skin - like small cuts or scratches around your hands or feet. You can pick up the virus very easily by touching a towel or face cloth that someone with a wart has used. They can also spread if you keep scratching them - whether they're on your own body or someone elses.
