Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween Safety Tips
From wearing a safe Halloween costume to checking your treats before eating them, find out how to stay safe on the spookiest night of the year!
Getting Dressed
It's important to wear a costume that will
scare a few souls, but it's just as important to wear something that'll
keep you safe. Choose a costume color that's
visible at night like white, but if you want to wear a dark color, stick
reflective tape on your costume, loot bag and props (like
swords or brooms). Your costume should also be just the
right length so that you don't trip and fall all over yourself. If you're wearing a mask, make sure the eye holes are
large enough to see out of and the mouth area is
roomy enough for you to
breathe easily.
Trick-or-Treating
You should always
trick-or-treat with a group of friends, as well as your parents or another adult. Carry a
flashlight or
glow stick to light your way, and
stick to the sidewalks of well-lit neighborhoods instead of taking shortcuts through backyards and alleys. Only go up to houses that have their
lights on and never, ever enter a house to collect your treats! Most importantly,
look both ways before you cross the street to check for oncoming cars,
bikes and low-flying brooms!
Digging In
We know you want to dig into your goody bag ASAP, but your parents need to
check your candy before you eat it! Throw out anything that's
unwrapped or
homemade, unless you personally know
who made it and gave it to you. If you have a younger sibling, it's a good idea to get rid of any treats that could be easily
choked on, like
gum, peanuts and small, hard candies.
