Dirt Surfing

It's part skateboard, part bicycle. Kidzworld looks at the fast-paced and high-adrenaline world of dirt surfing.

What Is Dirtsurfing?

The dirtsurfer, which was invented in Australia, is a two-wheeled vehicle that's part skateboard, part bicycle. It's just over five feet long, has two BMX wheels, no handlebars, and can be ridden basically anywhere, from paved roads to mountains. Dirtsurfers or inline boarders control the dirtsurfer by turning their legs, in much the same way a snowboarder or surfer controls their board.

Dirtsurfing - Big Air, Big Speed.

The dirtsurfer is a sweet ride for anyone who loves big air or is a speed freak. A dirtsurfer can fly up to 70 miles per hour - much faster than your average skateboard. A dirtsurfer is supposed to be fairly easy to ride, especially for those who have surfed or snowboarded before. Some riders have also modified their dirtsurfers with kites or sails for extra air!

Dirtsurfing - Getting Started

Dirtsurfing or inline boarding, as it's also called, is a pretty new sport, so you'll probably have a tough time tracking down a store that sells dirtsurfers. A new dirtsurfer is also a kinda pricey, costing around $400 US. For more info on where you can buy a dirtsurfer and a list of cool places to ride, head to www.dirtsurf.com.
