Becoming a Pro Wrestler

Have you ever thought of becoming a professional wrestler? Find out what it takes to become a professional piledriver.

Pro Wrestling - Getting Started

  • Professional wrestling is as much about acting and showmanship as it is about athletic ability. To be a good professional wrestler, you need to have as much charisma and stage presence, as you do strength and athleticism.
  • Join your school's wrestling team and learn some of the basic moves involved in pinning or turning an opponent over. Keep in mind that professional wrestling is VERY different from real wrestling, in which headlocks, suplexes and piledrivers are not allowed. But joining your school's wrestling team will still be helpful in learning some of the moves required to make it to the WWE.
  • Get involved with your school's drama club or some other theater group and learn some acting skills and how to develop your wrestling character. You may even have a chance to create a costume for your wrestling persona.
  • There are also several pro wrestling schools you can join once you get older, but these can be expensive, so make sure you look into them carefully to see what kind of training and opportunities they offer.
  • Pro Wrestling - Dangers and Pitfalls

  • Do not become involved in backyard wrestling. Backyard wrestling is not a safe way to learn body slams or dropkicks and won't help you become a pro wrestler.
  • While it may seem fun to try out a piledriver on your friend or younger brother on a mattress in your backyard, it can also be very dangerous and result in someone getting seriously injured.
  • Don't try any of your wrestling moves out unless there's an adult around to supervise.
  • Pro Wrestling - What Are The Chances?

Your chances of stepping in the ring with Chris Benoit or Triple H at Summer Slam are about as good as Paris Hilton's chances of winning a Nobel Prize. Pro wrestling is a very competitive business that requires a lot of time, money and luck to make it big. But if you love wrestling and think you have what it takes, go for it. Just remember to practice your moves safely and know that pro wrestling is about entertaining an audience, not about hurting people.
