Mean Girls DVD Review

Mean Girls - A-List Laughs
Cady Heron has been living in the wilds of Africa with her researcher 'rents. When she returns to the US, she has no idea how to function in high school. Her first friends, arty outcasts, convince Cady to use her burgeoning friendship with the snobby Plastics to teach them a lesson. Mean Girls is written by the one and only Tina Fey (head writer for SNL), who also plays the quirky calculus teacher, Ms. Norbury. There are a bazillion SNL actors in the movie (Ana Gasteyer, Tim Meadows, Amy Poehler) and it's produced by SNL creator Lorne Michaels. All the SNL influence adds up to endless laugh-out-loud moments. Rajiv Surendra deserves a special shout out for his scene-stealing performance as Kevin Gnapoor - Math Enthusiast/Bad Ass MC.
Mean Girls - B-List Blunders
There isn't much to complain about in this movie - except for Cady's quasi-relationship with her crush and the occasional over-the-top cheesiness. The movie sets it up like you're supposed to want Cady to get the guy she's after - but he seems like a bit of a loser. Also, get your crackers ready for when Cady makes a speech at the Spring Fling - it's an all out fromage-fest. Blech!

You'll get commentary from not only the director and producer, but from Tina Fey herself (and you know that girl can tell a funny joke)! You'll also find a blooper reel and a bunch of deleted, never-before-seen scenes. Don't miss the cool featurettes either - including Plastic Fashion, a look at some of the inspirations behind the making of the movie!Mean Girls - Bottom Line
This movie will make you laugh 'til you pee but it's a little heavy handed with the can't-we-all-get-along theme. Overall, though, this film is a hit and, as an added bonus, Mean Girls makes you laugh so hard, it doubles as an ab workout. Rating:
