Ghostly Goodness
Haunted is filled with the totally hilarious situations that happen to one teenage Susannah Simon. Whether it's fights with her annoying step-brother Brad or accidents in her new Jimmy Choo shoes - Susannah is a totally relatable and totally loveable character. We can even relate to her battle over loving a guy who doesn't seem to love her back and lusting after a guy she thinks she should hate. But, what makes this book super-unique (and a ton of fun), is that some of the people in Susannah's life are dead. Her love interest, Jesse, died in the 1850s, and Paul (the boy she loves to hate and hates to love) is a mediator like her. Even if you're not a fan of the sci fi/supernatural, you'll dig this book. Whether it's with a dead person, or a living one, Susannah Simon's issues make for a great read.
Mediator Misses
The one thing that kept popping into my head was how much Haunted reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. At first I enjoyed the similar dialogue, catch phrases and fashion references, but then it kind of irked me. It made the story seem a little been-there, done-that. Especially the "in love with a dead guy" thing. Another thing to keep in mind is Haunted isn't exactly a stand-alone story. Susannah's adventures with the undead span a series of books by Meg Cabot, and some of the references in this book may leave you a little confused if you haven't read the previous books.
