Matchstick Men Movie Review

Cheat, jive turkey, flimflam man, shark, matchstick man. Whatever you want to call him, Roy is a con artist - and he's mighty good at what he does. Until his long lost daughter comes along, that is.

Nicholas Cage plays the part of Roy, a con man with severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) who discovers that he has a 14 year-old daughter (played by Alison Lohman), who desperately wants to meet him. So, Roy does what every con man, dad-figure would do - he teaches his daughter, Angela, the tricks of his trade. He drags her into his world of lies and deception and makes a big old mess of things. But, it's impossible not to cheer on this father-daughter duo as they swindle and steal their way to the top.

Matchstick Men Cons

Matchstick Men is full of twists, turns and an action-packed story line. So, the only thing you might be annoyed with is how twisty and turny the plot ends up being. One minute you think you've got it all figured out, the next you're having to re-play the entire movie in your head to see if you've got everything straight.

Matchstick Men - Bottom Line

There are some amazing actors in Matchstick Men that make this a film worth watching over and over again. Nicholas Cage and Alison Lohman fall into such a realistic dad-daughter relationship, you'll be surprised they're not related in real life. And Sam Rockwell, who plays Roy's business partner Frank, adds just enough quirkiness to set the flick apart from other films coming out this fall.
