Dear Dish-It,
I'm very anti-social. I don't interact with anyone, mostly because I was depressed and think I still am! I get mad and jealous of my little sister for being a road runner. I don't want to be a loner - how do I make friends? Where do I go? And how do I do it with out liking sports? I never go out anywhere because I have no one to go out with and I don't want to go out with myself, I'd feel stupid. School is going to start and high school is hard enough. PLEASE HELP! This is a great Web site.

Lots of people go through phases where they don't want to interact with other people. This is totally normal. But, while alone time can be great, there's nothing better than hanging with some of your closest friends. It is hard to find the right people to spend your time with though, especially if you aren't interested in anyone you go to school with. Joining a sports team is one option for meeting new people but if you're not into physical activities, there are plenty of other extra-curriculars that will get you out there and socializing. If the thought of joining teams at school freaks you out, why not join a community theater group, cooking or craft class or even doing some volunteer work. Here you'll meet a ton of people who you never would have run into in the halls at school. It sounds really simple but that's really all it takes. Also, if you are still feeling depressed, you should probably sit down with a school counselor or family doctor about why you might be feeling so blue. Hope this has helped!
