Dear Dish-It, I Want to Get Plastic Surgery

Dear Dish-It, is here to whisper "ttyl after I've thought about this some more".

Dear Dish-It,

I'm really self-conscious because I have been made fun of a lot about my ears and now I'm too afraid to ask a girl out. I need some advice because I'm thinking about plastic surgery but I don't know how to tell my dad. Thanks.

Dear bloodmen15,

Peeps sometimes go to extraordinary lengths to change they way they look and it rarely improves their lives the way they had hoped. Whether it's starving yourself to be thin, taking supplements to gain muscle or having plastic surgery to make your ears smaller, quick fixes almost always backfire on you.

The kids who tease you about your ears may not stop just because you get them pinned back or reshaped. More than likely, these kids are just dumb bullies who will go on to bug you cuz you've had plastic surgery. And, is plastic surgery suddenly going to make you an incredibly outgoing person, able to ask out girls left, right and center? Probably not. Before you think about going under the knife, you should probably focus on breaking out of your shy-shell. Talking with your dad (or even a school counselor,) about why you're so unhappy is a good idea. They may have ideas to get you out of that self-confidence slump that don't involve plastic surgery. If in a few years you are still unhappy with those ears of yours, then maybe you can talk with a doctor about your options. For now, get out there and ask a girl out. I bet there are a ton of 'em out there dying to get to know you better - ears included.

So, ya gotta burnin' question? Need some love directions? Thinkin' 'bout stuff like depression, sex,how ya feel 'bout YOURSELF (that's called "self-esteem"), boyfriends, girlfriends, losin' old friends, bullyin' or peer pressure, but too scared to ask the parents? Don't be scared to Dish-It here. But 'member, if ya hang out in Chat with other Kidzworld members who know ya by your 'username', ya might wanna use a secret nickname when ya write in. That way no one'll ever know it's you. And, just in case ya don't know, Dish-It gets a lotta letters everyday, and she can't answer 'em all. So keep checkin' the column cuz she's prob'ly answerin' somethin' very similar to your question while you're out doin' somethin' else. K? And Thanks! Ya keep her outta trouble. Oh! And if ya've got words of wisdom you wanna share,We'll dish 'em up, too.
