The only place for you to buy a soap box starter kit is directly from the All-American Soap Box Derby. This is the organization that runs all soap box races in the United States. A basic soap box car kit costs around $300 US - but that doesn't include a set of wheels, which costs another $80.00.If you're a first-time builder, it's a good idea to buy a couple of extra brake cables. You may have to change the position of the brake pedal one or more times to properly fit your body to the race car. If you want to change position of the pedal, after you've cut your cable to length, then you could be scrambling to get another cable. Stay on the safe side and order a couple of spare cables with your kit (They're cheap and brakes are obviously very important.) It's also a good idea to order extra wheel washers and brake pads - since you'd hate to be forced out of a race because you ran out of car parts.
