Maniac Monkeys on Magnolia Street

Author: Angela Johnson

Charlene has just moved to a new neighborhood, she doesn't know anyone and she misses her old house. But it doesn't take long for Charlene, who prefers to be called Charlie, to meet the boy who will become her new best friend. Maniac Monkeys on Magnolia Street follows Charlie and her new friend Billy all over Magnolia Street on some crazy adventures. This is a great book for Kidzworld's younger members who are looking for an interesting, easy-to-read chapter book.

Each chapter in Maniac Monkeys on Magnolia Street is it's own separate story. So the great thing about this book is, if you get tired or bored with one chapter, you can skip it and start the next one without missing a thing. The chapters are only about 15-20 pages long and each chapter has a picture of Charlie and Billy, which helps to put you right there in the story with these two adventurous characters.

My favorite chapter in Maniac Monkeys on Magnolia Street was called The Pumpkin Box and was all about Charlie and Billy going on a digging expedition in the empty lot across from Charlie's house. They go looking for sabertooth tiger bones but find something entirely different. It reminded me so much of those days in the sandbox with my little sis, digging for treasures of our own for hours and hours.

Maniac Monkeys on Magnolia Street is a fun book but is definitely targeted to a younger age group, say eight to 11 year-olds. Then again, when is anyone too old for a picture book?

Mj_feature Even though This Is It is not really a movie for kids, and some of you may not want to or be allowed to watch it, we thought we'd review it for you because so many kids out there love Michael Jackson.
