The Squire, His Knight & His Lady Book Review

Is it just me or is there something about a medieval story that makes you want to grab a sword, hop on a horse and head out questing with the Knights of the Round Table?
An Adventurous Sequel
The Squire, His Knight & His Lady is the sequel to The Squire's Tale and is an exciting adventure into a world of jousting, fierce battles and beautiful maidens. Both books are a spin-off of the tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight written in the late 14th century by an anonymous writer.
The Green Knight
Sir Gawain and his squire, (medieval name for sidekick, not unlike what Robin is to Batman) Terence, find themselves at King Arthur's court in Camelot in The Squire, His Knight & His Lady. One night during the festive New Year's celebrations, a visitor who calls himself the Green Knight arrives and dares any of the knights to come and take a whack at his head with an axe. Man, would that ever hurt!
Don't Lose Your Head
But what's the catch, you say? Well, the other part of the dare is that the knight must let the Green Knight take a whack at his head with an axe in exactly one year's time. What kind of dare is that? None of the knights rise to the challenge so King Arthur himself stands to take on the Green Knight. Sir Gawain quickly jumps up and offers himself instead, not wanting to have the King risk his life. Needless to say the Green Knight wasn't that fazed by having his head chopped off. Yup, he just put it right back on and went on his merry way, reminding Gawain of his end of the bargain before he left.
The Bottom Line
So a few months later, Sir Gawain set out in search of the Green Chapel (home of, you guessed it, the Green Knight,) and he and Terence manage to encounter several enemies along the way. Terence is actually just as, if not more, important to the book than Sir Gawain. His character is so selfless you can't help but root for him. If you're looking for an action-packed read then The Squire, His Knight & His Lady is the book for you.
