The Marvel Ultimate Battles card game has arrived and it brought a few super-powered friends! This easy-to-play game lets each player lead a team of comic book heroes into battle. Packed with heroes, villains and 165 cards, it's coming your way from Upper Deck - folks behind the Vs. System and Yu-Gi-Oh! card games. Here's the scoop with Gary's Marvel Ultimate Battles card game review.

Comic Book Smashfest

The game kicks off with each player putting down three comic book heroes (or villains!) as their team. Each turn you play two allies to help out and Action cards for fast effects. You win by knocking out the other team's heroes by attacking with yours. Each card has three ratings - Speed, Power and Mind. Fast cards attack first, choosing either a Strength or Mind battle with an opponent's character. The higher rating wins the fight, discarding an Ally card or wounding a hero. Two wounds KO's a hero and, when all three are out cold, you win!

Simply Super

Not only is it a ton of fun building your favorite superhero teams, this game is easy to play too! The battles are fast, you draw lots of cards and it's a blast having your favorite comic book heroes and villains fight it out. The card artwork is great too - especially some of the shiny foil cards.

Vile Villains

One bummer is that, since all the heroes and allies are balanced, you can have some really weird characters win fights. There are also a bunch of really powerful characters who end up sucking pretty hard. Finally, a few cards have some lame artwork on them.

Is It Ultimate?

The Marvel Ultimate Battles card game mixes fast action with awesome heroes and some wicked artwork. Even with a few problems that can leave favorite comic book characters eating dirt, it's a lot of fun. And with the Iron Man and Incredible Hulk movies kicking butt, this is the perfect time to grab a starter pack and challenge a friend to a game!
